Columbia Property Management was founded in 1986 by Joe Michelli and John Ikard.  At the time, most real estate companies in the area focused on sales and had a management division.  Joe wanted to form a company whose focus was management, while still handling some sales.  Joe had already achieved a Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation.  The partners decided they wanted the name of their company to reflect the initials "CPM".  That year was the year of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster.  So in honor of the shuttle and the men and women on board, Columbia Property Managment (CPM) was born.

Joe and John also needed to decide on colors for Columbia.  As an LSU fan, Joe wanted purple and gold.  However, John was a Tulane fan and wanted blue and green.  Using a very scientific method (a coin flip) the partners agreed to go with blue and green.

Columbia's first client had a portfolio of $10 million dollars.  His properties were scattered throughout Kenner.  Since then, Columbia has grown to manage 180 units throughout Kenner and Metairie.  In 2002, Joe purchased the Gertrude Gardner management division.   We still utilize the now Prudential Gardner agents to assist and manage those properties, but that purchase has enabled Columbia to grow.  We now manage over 380 units located throughout Jefferson, Orleans, St Charles, St Bernard Parishes and Mississippi. 

Columbia first got into Homeowner Association management in 1999.  Our first property was located in Harvey.  By 2002, Columbia had grown to manage 8 communities.  Since Kel Kopecky, CMCA joined the staff in 2003, CPM now manages 15 Homeowner Associations located in Kenner, Metairie, Harvey, Uptown, and the French Quarter.  In order to provide better service to our Homeowner Associations, Columbia joined the Community Associations Instittue (CAI) in 2009. 

Owing to our belief in strong customer service, our 1st client and our 1st association are still with us today.
